The Special Operations Executive (SOE) was a British secret organization formed during World War II to conduct espionage, sabotage, and support resistance movements in enemy-occupied Europe and Asia.
Formation:

Established: July 1940 by order of Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Origins: It combined three existing secret organizations:

Section D (sabotage, from MI6)

Electra House (propaganda, from the Foreign Office)

The Joint Intelligence Committee’s Military Intelligence Research unit

Churchill famously instructed the new agency to “set Europe ablaze.”
Objectives:

Sabotage: Disrupt enemy industry, transport, and communications.

Espionage: Gather intelligence behind enemy lines.

Support Resistance: Train, arm, and coordinate local resistance groups in occupied territories.

Subversion: Undermine Axis authority through propaganda and psychological warfare.
